SKUNK APE,SASQUATCH, And BIGFOOT RESEARCHERS
Researchers in Florida and sourounding states
(SHAAWANOKI as The Seminole people call it)
My name is Emma Carroll,I was born in
St.Pete Fl. in 1945 and have been to many
states. Lived in Arizona for a short time as
well as New Jersey when  I was just a baby
but most of my years have been spent here
in Florida ,which I have lived in many parts
of the state. Floral City in Citrus County as
a child and moved to different areas with my
parents and then with my husband. My
favorite place is the Glades and that's
where I spent most of my married life raising
children, two children, in the wilds of the
Everglades. That's also where I had my
experience with the Skunk Ape and what
got me into the deep study of
what, why, where and how of this creature.
Many years now and I've  found out  one
important thing,I still don't know anything.
My experience was in the last part of 1982 or the beginning of 1983,winter time. I've always been interested in the
unknown or a good mystery so I've read and watched many different things on the subject of Bigfoot, as well as many
other oddities, long before my sighting and if I hadn't seen what I did and finally come to terms with it I probably would
have  said it wasn't anything but a myth. I still like to watch things on ghost and other oddities but I'm not really a
believer, but I'm opened minded.  I'm not saying those who have had experiences in these other things are wrong it's
just I've never come in contact with anything and so I've not had the desire to really study the subject matter, they might
feel the same way about my quest.
I've come to one conclusion on The Skunk Ape and that its not an ape(It's not a skunk either, lol.) Even children today
know what an ape looks like and can easily identify most types of primates. Apes walk on all fours, the Skunk Ape
walks upright and has a stride  like a human. A bear stands upright but only lumbers on hind legs for a very short time
because this isn't it's natural way of movement. ,it walks on all four legs/feet.  I don't think trudging through the woods
and swamps will turn up a Skunk Ape. I lived in the woods and swamps of the Everglades and true that is where I had
my sighting but living in this environment everyday for 20 years was like camping out with all the amenities so to speak,
and except for the one time I never saw anything again. Believe me I traveled the area quite thoroughly by car and foot
.Waded through water in the Cypress swamps with my son looking for tree orchids and hiked in the woods wild flower
hunting.  I've  been outside both day and night  and never saw it again. Like me most sightings are by folks not looking
for it .
Those researchers who've never seen the creature and put hours of study into finding out what it is I have to applaud.
I hope that we will never kill or capture one,but for some reason I don't think thats going to happen either. With all our
studies by groups and individual researchers, as myself, we don't really seem any closer to the truth. We're missing
something and I wished I knew what it was.
A nurse for 25 years she has been interested in the Skunk Ape of Florida every sense her
father took her to see the 1972 Docudrama The Legend of Boggy Creek. She read up on the
subject, exploring evidence and she believes that there really is something out there though
she has never seen one. She is a researcher for the  Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization.
She has gone on training expeditions with the group. She has been on four expeditions in
Florida and one in North Carolina and one in Utah.
Her closes encounter was in North Carolina expedition in 2008, she believed it was a
Sasquatch but could have been a bear but something walked around the tent, touching the
fabric. This happened in an area that has had lots of sightings. She interviews witnesses in the
area around where she lives that have sent in sightings to BFRO,Telephone and on the site of
the sighting.
In the St.Petersburg Times I read that she collects  animal skulls from various outings, many
decorate her home that sits at an end of a dirt road in Land O'Lakes. She also collects exotic
bugs that was bought on eBay that found a home in her bathroom. She has roosters and a
parakeet named Skittles.
She said" thousands of people for hundreds of years describe much the same thing", "Most
people don't have anything to gain or lose but still come forward.
You will find her on the web site BFRO when she analizes the sightings and witnesses in her
area.
DR.Meldrum has been on many documentaries seen on Monster Quest,History Channel
,Etc...and has put his name on the line so to speak I believe with his interest in the subject of
Sasquatch,Bigfoot,Skunk Ape or again what ever its called by different peoples. He has written
a book on the subject and on his studies. He and several other scientist and experts in their
known fields have worked together to find answers. He works all over the world and isn't just a
Researcher for one area but I put his name here because he has endorsed other Skunk Ape
Researchers in the state of Florida.
I copied this small portion from Dan Jacksons web site, which is linked to this site,go to links if
you want to find out more about him from his own words.
His sighting back in 1983 is  on this web site under 1983. His sighting was probably close to the
time of mine and only about 40 some odd miles difference. Mine close to and joining Devils
Gardens and his in Corkscrew Swamp.
